First edition, first impression. 192pp. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine. 12mo. Cloth a little rubbed and rounded at spine ends. Upper text block edge dust darkened, remaining edges very slightly foxed. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original Gollancz yellow jacket, shelf worn, a little rubbed on extreme edges and a little sunned over spine. Dust wrapper now in a removable clear film sleeve.
Publishers Victor Gollancz introduced their yellow jacket shortly after the firm was founded, and almost all their publications between the 1920s and 1980s were yellow jacketed. These highly distinctive, and now niche collectable, jackets, are easily recognised from their plain yellow covers and stylised use of fonts in black and magenta. This particular volume is very unusual for the yellow jacket series in that it has an illustrated front panel but preserves the distinctive spine and rear panel colouring of standard yellow jackets.
