First edition, first impression.  xii, 146pp, with some page decorations.  Mauve endpapers.  Burgundy cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine.  12mo.  Cloth very slightly pushed on corners.  Previous owner’s details neatly inked on the front free endpaper else volume is neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original dust jacket, not price clipped, a little shelf worn and faintly marked, bumped at spine ends.  

Purportedly hidden by Jane Austen’s sister, Cassie, in 1818, the material which makes up this volume throws an entirely new light on Austen’s works.  The discovery of these missing pages also forces a reassessment of Austen herself, for alongside these pages they found letters to her editor, Thomas Egerton, and her sister, arguing and anguishing over cuts she was asked to make.  “A widely funny collection that satirizes the Austen oeuvre yet also manages to play implicit homage”.
