346-456pp, plus 48pp of contemporary advertisements. In printed paper wraps. Tall 8vo. Covers very worn, chipped and chapped at edges, soiled, with some light pencil marks, creased especially on verso, with some old and failing Sellotape repairs to cracked spine, with minor loss at spine tips. First few pages have some curling on corners, lightly toned around edges with faint and occasional spotting; text largely bright and clean. Issue No 158 of Pearson’s Magazine, issued in October 1910, chiefly notable for the inclusion of the first appearance in print of Rudyard Kipling’s The Horse-marines, accompanied by three illustrations and a headpiece by Crombi. Pearson’s Magazine was a monthly journal, published between 1896 and 1939, which focussed on speculative literature, the arts and political discussion, often with a socialist leaning.
