Includes numerous drawings and black and white illustrations. Blue cloth-covered boards, gilt titles on the spine. 12mo. Cloth a little tired and marked, slightly rubbed at spine tips and corners. Upper text edge a little toned. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.
The Civil Service Council for Further Education, which was established in the late 1940s and operated until the late 1970s, promoted and encouraged general education of British civil servants, providing information on educational facilities, opportunities and methods distinct from vocational training. As an interesting piece of post-war social history, the journals document how the state encouraged its workforce to adopt life-long learning, arts and self-improvement outside of the work environment and reveal some of the institutional culture of the British civil service at the time.
