First edition, first impression. 216pp. Red cloth-covered boards, gilt lettering to spine. Upper text block edge sprayed red. 12mo. Cloth is a little rubbed around spine tips and joints, perhaps a little less than bright. Some strip tanning on endpapers, and a few minor signs of handling internally else neat, clean and tight. In its original dust wrapper, not price clipped, a little rubbed around edges, especially corners and spine tips, slightly chipped at spine head, with a little toning to rear panel. Dust wrapper now protected in an archival-quality Mylar sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.
A lesser known novel from the author of the Hornblower series, set in what would become the Belgian Congo in the 19th century and following the story of Loa, the peaceful chief of a jungle tribe as the community resists European colonisation. A dust jacketed copy which shows it age but nonetheless presents well.
