The Observer’s Book of Horses and Ponies; The Observer’s Book of Weather; The Observer’s Book of Sea and Seashore (Observer’s Pocket Book Series Collection, Three Volumes)

A collection of three different titles from the Observer’s Pocket Book series.  All uniformly bound in cloth of varying colour, with titles front and spine.  All illustrated.  16mos.  All volumes in generally close to very good condition, some are slightly pushed at spine ends, most have a little dust marking to the upper text block edge, and some have a previous owner’s name or inscription internally, else are neat, clean and tight.  All in illustrated dust wrappers, shelf worn, rubbed at edges, folds and joints, a little scuffed at ends of lightly sunned spines; spine titles faded on two, Horses and Ponies is price clipped.  All reprints or revised editions issued between 1964 and 1970.

Observer’s Pocket books is a series of pocket-sized books published by Frederick Warne and covering topics such as hobbies, art, nature and history.  The first in the series – British Birds – was published in 1937.  The 99th title, the Observer’s Book of Observer’s Books was released in 1999 (by Peregrine Books) in a matching format.  The series was rounded to 100 with the publication of Wayside and Woodland in 2003. Many of the titles have been revised, reprinted, updated and released in different dust wrappers over the years – it is estimated that there are some 800 variations – and have become collectible: the earlier numbers and rarer issues can be hard to find
