280, (vi). Quarter bound in leather over marbled card boards, six panels with raised bands on spine. 12mo. Both boards are wholly detached but present. significantly rubbed and scuffed at points, with minor loss at spine head. Text block is solid and square, for the most part bright but some occasional spotting and signs of handling and use. There is an ownership stamp on the front endpaper and occasional, neat notes in text written in a copperplate hand. Pasted in on the pages preceding the title page are contemporary newspaper clippings relating details of local government administrative changes in 1837 and the Ripon Bone House (the vaults beneath Ripon Cathedral, where bones and skulls were once stored) and an apparently contemporary engraved view of Newby Hall. Further contemporary articles have been pasted in on the rear blank pages, which date from 1845 and relate to the Death of Mrs Lawrence of Studley, and her funeral together with further copperplate notes. An early history of Ripon and its surrounding area. A second edition appeared in 1806 under a slightly different title.
