Nevil Shute Norway (1899-1960), best known as a novelist and author of works such as One the Beach and A Town Like Alice, was a pilot and an aeronautical engineers, working for many years for de Havilland and then Vickers before founding his own aircraft construction company, Airspeed Ltd – its Envoy aircraft was chosen for the King’s Flight.
