[1930]  First edition, first impression.  138pp, with monochrome plate frontispiece and further monochrome plate illustrations.  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on upper panel and black lettering to spine.  8vo. Cloth is a little tired, faded in margins and over spine, moderately rounded on corners and spine ends.   Text block edges lightly toned.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

A contextual biography of  the 17th century writer and non-conformist preacher John Bunyan, best remembered for his Christian allegory, The Pilgrim’s Progress.   The author – credited in the volume as C J L,  was Caroline Ladd, a prolific writer closed associated with the Open Brethren movement, who specialised in biographies, mission histories and educational tales for younger readers.
