First edition, first printing.  720pp, with colour plate frontispiece and further monochrome plate illustrations.  Brown cloth-covered boards with gilt motif on upper panel, gilt lettering on the spine.  8vo. Cloth a little rounded at corners and spine ends, slightly sunned over a marked spine. Some spotting on text block edges.  Gutter cracked ahead of half title, mild toning restricted to endpapers, else internally neat, clean and bright.
