As a violinist, Paganini dominated his peers and left for posterity a magnificent influence. His journals, first published in Gothic German, were lost in the mists of the 19th century but now, here, translated into English, bring to life a character who not only fascinated his contemporaries but demands attention. George Harrrys first compiled the journals – he was confounded by Paganini, who at times sent a chill through him. There are reports of the accuracy of his bullet at 20 paces – and were all the sayings about him just gossip, as he claimed. Very hard to find title.
