210, [ii]pp, with colour plate frontispiece and 15 further colour plates.  In red cloth-covered boards with gilt decoration on front panel and gilt lettering on spine. Top edge gilt. 8vo.  Cloth a little worn, gently rubbed and rounded on corners, short cracks on joints and a little fraying around a lightly sunned spine, scattered mild marks. Hint of toning to endpapers else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

Lady Londonderry, a well-known London socialite and hostess between the wars, says in the foreword that the majority of these stories were written as letters o her family. She was delighted when upon her return she found them typed up and enjoyed so much that she wrote more, weaving legends into the narrative. The stunning illustrations are by the well-known illustrator and watercolourist Edmund Brock and Lady Londonderry’s daughter, Margaret.
