30pp, perfect bound booklet in light card covers. 4to. Covers worn and rubbed at edges, a little scuffed at spines and curled at corners. Short crack in card at head of spine. Internally neat, clean bright and tight barring some wear at page edges. An original printing of the third Beveridge Memorial Lecture given by Prime Minister Harold Wilson in 1966. Lord Beveridge, whose 1942 Report, Social Insurance and Allied Services, was the founding block of the UK ‘cradle to grave’ social security welfare state, including an expansion of National Insurance and the National Health Service. Wilson, Prime Minister by the time he gave this lecture, had worked as a research assistant to Beveridge during the second world war and was strongly influenced by Beveridge and his liberal economic viewpoint.
