1837-1839. A collection of periodical magazines from 1837 to 1839, bound together in cloth-covered boards (boards worn, rubbed at edges, cracked around spine and front board almost wholly detached). The periodicals themselves are in good condition, with a little age toning and edge wear. Around 30 periodicals, some literary, some political and some church related but most board-brush, sometime satirical, stories, anecdotes and pen portraits. Examples include the first issue of Streetology; Clarke’s Tales of the War; The Political Mirror, The Cabinet; The Enquirer; The Penny Pickwick; The Pickwick Songster; Wilson’s Wonderful Characters; The Protestant Preacher; The Sketch-Book by Bos; Cockney Adventures; Tales of Chivalry; Adventures of the Actor; Holt’s Circulating Library; The National, a Library for the People etc. There is a handwritten table of contents at the front. Two of the periodicals contain accounts of Miss Whitehead, the Black Nun of Threadneedle Street, one of which purports to be an obituary of sorts. A large and heavy volume which will likely incur an additional charge for overseas delivery
