428, [10]pp, with tissue-guarded monochrome plate illustrations.  Green buckram cloth boards with gilt and blind embossed decorations, gilt lettering front and spine, Bevelled edges.  Decorated endpapers.  8vo.  Cloth is a lightly rubbed on edges and around spine, a little pushed at spine tips.  Front free endpaper absent.  A little foxing and toning to first and last few pages  else neat, clean and tight.

Hocking (1850 to 1925) was a Cornish-born novelist, political activist and Methodist preacher.  His  best remembered novel is Her Benny (1879), a best-seller in its day which was tuned into a film in 1920.  Most of this novels were didactic in character and aimed at younger audiences.
