viii, 558pp, with plate frontispiece (no second plate). In a later binding of green buckram cloth with gilt titles on spine. Remains of a bookplate on the front paste down, front hinge nicely repaired. Previous owner’s name, dated 1873, on the first true leaf. The author’s name has been inked onto the title page in a copperplate hand. Small repair to rear of title page. Lack rear free endpaper, which has been clumsily removed, else internally remarkable neat, fresh, clean and tight.
The author, not identified in the volume as printed, was the Rev Hugh Owen (1761-1827), a cleric and local historian, sometime vicar of St Julian’s in Shrewsbury (and later of St Mary’s in the same town.
