First edition, first impression. 316pp. Black cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine. 8vo. Cloth is a little tired and marked, gently rounded on corners, rubbed and rounded at spine ends. The rear joint has cracked, causing the backstrip to flap. Text block edges a little toned. Free endpapers tanned with some faint spotting on first and last few leaves else internally neat, clean and tight.

AS a playwright, he was a key member of a group of realist dramatists who became known as the Manchester School.
