Lambeth Palace Library is the historic library of the Archbishop of Canterbury, founded by Archbishop Bancroft in 1610, his manuscripts comprising the core of the modern collection of medieval manuscripts. IT has also been the archival repository of the archbishopric’s records since the middle ages. This handlist, describing the collection as it was at the end of the 20th century is divided into three sections – manuscripts; Archbishop’s archives; and Archives of Bishops, Churchmen and Societies. Appendices cover printed books, a bibliography on the library’s history and the Sion College Collection which is now housed at Lambeth Palace Library.
