Philosopher George Edward Moore (1872-1958), together with Betrand Russell and Ludwig Wittgenstein, was among the developers of analytical philosophy, moving the discipline away from idealism and towards common-sense. An influence upon the Bloomsbury Group, a member of the Cambridge Apostles and a fellow of the British Academy, he was an abiding humanist who presided over the British Ethical Union (now Humanists UK). Perhaps his most enduring and influential work was Principia Ethica (1903) which fundamentally questions the nature of the good.
