First edition, first impression.  Signed by the author on the title page.  106, 132pp, with occasional black and white plate illustrations.  Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt motif and gilt lettering on the spine.  8vo.  Cloth is a little rubbed and rounded on corners and at ends of spine.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original glossy, illustrated dust wrapper, a little bumped at spine ends, very slightly rubbed on corners.

Eric, or Little by Little, first published in 1858, was one of the earliest and most famous boy’s school stories, telling of Eric Williams’ time at Roslyn School.  Out of print for many years, here is a facsimile reproduction of the original 1858 edition, together with Ian Anstruther’s critical analysis explaining the genesis and impact of the book, with relevant context and biographical information.
