First edition, second impression.  176pp, with line drawn illustrations in text.  Blue cloth-covered boards, black titles on spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little rubbed on edges, rounded on corners and spine ends, perhaps a tad faded.  Upper text block edge toned and dull.  Ex school library copy with usual library markings on front and rear endpapers (no other library markings), else internally neat and clean. In its original paper dust jacket, rubbed round edges and points, shelf worn, some chipping on folds, and a little faded, some toning visible on verso.

A basic to intermediate introduction to the state of computing in the mid 1960s, with sections on Man and the Digital Computer; The Binary System; The Decimal System; The Analogue Computer; Programming – Control, etc.  Written as an introductory text, in admirably non-technical terms, now particularly interesting for the final sections on how scientists of the 19t60s saw computing developing into artificial intelligence and the uses to which that could be put.
