Ludwig Klages (1872-1956 is something of a mystery in contemporary esoteric studies: remembered in Germany as a prominent mystic and philosopher, he is virtually unknown beyond his native country. This is the first full length study of the key work for which Klages is best remembered, adapted by the author from his 1970 PhD thesis which focussed in particular on irrationalism, primitivism and the subsconscious “to evaluate [Klages’] possible role in the developments to Germany”. In particular, Alksnis attempts to assess Klages’ impact rather than evaluate either the man or his views.
