First edition, first impression.  320pp.  Deep blue cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering to spine.  12no.  Cloth is a tad pushed at spine tips.  Some spotting to text block edges, endpapers and, faintly, to first and last few leaves.  In its original dust wrapper, not price clipped, a little rubbed on edges, shelf worn, with some faint spotting visible on inner flaps, and minor soiling on rear panel.  Dust wrapper now protected in Brodart-style sleeve, fitted without the use of tape or adhesives.

Aphra Behn, renown as the first female writer to make a living from her writing, served as a political spy for  Charles II in the Low Countries and South America before taking to full time writing.  Spy and adventurer, she garnered a scandalous reputation by writing boldly about female desire, politics and power in a world that considered these things unacceptable.  In this novelistic yet well researched biography Emily Hahn brings this remarkable women to life, with some wholly imaginative interpretations.
