Edward Blishen was an acclaimed and award winning writer and broadcaster.  But before he moved into journalism, he was a teacher, undergoing emergency teacher training in 1949 at the end of the war and teaching.  He taught at Hampstead Prep School and then Holloway Road Secondary Modern, where is experiences were captured in his more famous book, Roaring Boys (1955). One of several books he wrote about teaching in the post-war years, A Nest of Teachers focussed primarily on his time at a  London Emergency Training College, where he undertook his emergency teacher training.
