Boards heavily worn and rubbed, rounded on corners, leather cracking along joints, scuffed and chipped over lightly sunned spine. Hinges cracked, loosening front boards a little. Armorial bookplate – crest, motto and name of Francis Rodd, 2nd Baron Rennell – on front paste down. Some faint spotting and toning on the first and last few leaves else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.
Francis Rodd, 2nd Baron Rennell (1895-1978) was an army officer and the second and eldest surviving son of Rennell Rodd. A diplomat, he served as an intelligence officer in the first world war and Chief of Civil Affairs in the Mediterranean theatre during the second world war; and a friend of T E Lawrence, with whom he frequently travelled.
