First edition, first impression. 266pp. Red cloth-covered boards, gilt lettering on spine. 8vo. Cloth is a little tired, gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends and ridged and dry over spine. Upper text block edge a little dull. Prize presentation plate on the front free endpaper (indicating that the volume was awarded to one Edwina Cotton of Cottesmore School in 1961), and a little spotting on endpapers, else internally neat and clean. Slightly loose.
An unusual collection of traditional Russian recipes, some adapted for English cookery, from an English engineer, George Froud, who spent over 40 years in Russia and whose grandmother attempted to teach generations of Russian cooks to prepare English dishes – her influence is clear in the recipes included.
