li, 277, [i], clxiii.  Quarter bound in brown leather over marbled paper boards. 4to.  Boards heavily worn and rubbed, rounded on corners, leather cracking along joints, scuffed and chipped over lightly sunned spine.  Hinges cracked, loosening front boards a little.  Armorial bookplate – crest, motto and name of Francis Rodd, 2nd Baron Rennell – on front paste down.  Some faint spotting and toning on the first and last few leaves else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

Francis Rodd, 2nd Baron Rennell (1895-1978)  was an army officer and the second and eldest surviving son of Rennell Rodd.  A diplomat, he served as an intelligence officer in the first world war and Chief of Civil Affairs in the Mediterranean theatre during the second world war; and a friend of T E Lawrence, with whom he frequently travelled.
