First edition, first printing. [1901]. 144pp, with colour plate frontispiece and further colour plate illustrations throughout text. Bound in faux morocco, with illustration on front panel, red and black lettering on front and spine. 32mo. Boards a little worn, very gently rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends, a couple of minor indentations on fore edge. Previous owner’s name neatly inked on front paste down. Endpapers tanned else neat, clean and bright throughout. Very slightly shaken.
The volume gives neither its publication date or the name of the author, crediting Bannerman simply as ‘the author of The Story of Little Black Sambo’. Little Black Sambo has been published two years earlier to great acclaim; The Story of Little Black Mingo was the first of several sequels. Nisbet published a cloth-bound trade edition simultaneously but it is not known how many copies of the deluxe version were produced. Few seem to have survived, making this hard to find now.
