Volume IV (of IV) only of the Works of Peter Pindar. First edition (the four volume set was issued between 1794 and 1796). [ii], 500pp [x]. Re-bound in full red leather with gilt decorations front, spine and rear. Inner gilt dentelles. All edges gilt. Coloured endpapers. 8vo. Boards a little rubbed and chipped at edges, spine sunned, some mild soiling on rear panel. Endpapers faded in margins, with a ridge across the front paste down, a little toning to first and last few pages, else internally neat, clean, bright and tight. Armorial bookplate of William Bealey Harrison on front free endpaper, likely Lt Col William Bealey Harrison (1838-1912) the first class English cricketer, coal industrialist and British Army officer, and later High Sheriff of Staffordshire. Second previous owner’s name, dated 1809, neatly inked on title page. Peter Pindar was the pseudonym of John Wolcot (1738-1819), the Devon-born satirist, poet and lyricist. A handsome volume.
