In 1546, nine year after Norton Abbey had been closed during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, Sir Richard Brooke purchased the estate from Henry VIII. Norton Priory had been elevated to abbey status in 1391 and with that came expansion, making a significant complex of buildings. Sir Richard and his descendants lived in and developed the estate for almost 400 years, until 1921. These volumes explore and set out the sequences of changes for the buildings at Norton Priory, and include historical maps, sketches and photographs.
