First UK edition, first impression (following publication the same year in the USA). xiv, 806pp, plus several section of monochrome plate illustrations. Blue cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on the spine. 8vo. Cloth a little tired, gently pushed in at spine ends. Hint of yellowing to text block edges; and about a dozen leaves towards the end have a minor corner bump, else neat, clean and tight. In its original glossy, illustrated dust wrapper, shelf worn and a tad faded, a little bumped on edges and rubbed on points.
