BookAddiction’s Privacy, Security and Cookie Policies

Privacy & Security

All customer-supplied information is treated as totally confidential. We will never pass your details on to anyone else.  You can browse our website without sharing personal information but if you wish to make purchase or subscribe to a mailing list we need some details. These include your name, your postal address, your email address and other details depending on which service you request.

We use your data only to communicate with you and to help us to provide you with excellent customer service. This includes email confirmation of order dispatch if you make a purchase from us.

If you ask us to remove your details from our database we will do so promptly, without question and provide confirmation to you that we have done so.

If you choose to pay by card, you will be transferred to secure payment pages at Stripe. This is a secure system in which your card details are verified by the bank without being sent to us.  We do not see, have access to or store your card details.  We receive a transaction status message indicating whether your payment has been authorised or declined.  Read more about Stripe.

Cookies Policy

BookAddiction’s website uses cookies. By using the BookAddiction website, it is assumed that you consent to our use of cookies in accordance with the terms of this policy.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a message sent from a web server to a web browser. It contains an identifier and is stored by the web browser as a small text file. The identifier is sent back to the server each time that the browser requests a page from the server.

Cookies can be either ‘persistent’ or ‘sessional’.  Persistent cookies are stored by the web browser until they expire.  Sessional cookies expire when the browser is closed.

How we use cookies:
Cookies do not hold any information that identifies you but personal details which you share with us can be linked to the information obtained from cookies. For example, pages that allow you to store items in your shopping basket and checkout securely set an identifier which may be associated with your personal information.

We may use information from cookies for the following purposes:

  • to track your navigation of our site and enable you to use our secure checkout,
  • to analyse use of our website, or
  • general website administration.

We do NOT, for example, use cookies to recognise you and welcome you on your return to our website, nor generate adverts that we think may interest you.

Third party cookies:
As you browse and use our website you may also receive third party cookies.  We use analytical tools to monitor trends website use and to improve the browsing experience. These tools may generate information which is stored on users’ computers.

Blocking cookies:

Most web browsers allow you to block cookies. For example:

  • In Edge, go to Settings and More in the upper right corner of your browser window.  Select Settings>Cookies and Site Permissions.  Select Manage and Delete Cookies and Site Data and disable Allow Sites to Save and Read Cookie Data.
  • In Google Chrome, go to the More menu in the top right corner of your browser window and select Settings.  Click Privacy and Security then select Third-party Cookies.  Choose Block Third-party Cookies.

For full details, please consult the documentation relating to your web browser software.
