16pp stitched pamphlet (front cover a little soiled and chapped at edges, last leave has a portion about 3 inches square missing from upper corner a tear reaching nearly all the way across and chapped at edges). Internally neat and fresh barring some wear and soiling at page edges. A record of the proceedings of a county meeting held at York Castle in July 1803 in which the great and the good, gathered from the three Ridings of Yorkshire, made declarations and agreed an address to be presented to the King in support of the Napoleonic Wars, revealing the extent of fear in the area of the French enemy and the jeopardy in which the nation felt itself. With a contribution from William Wilberforce, then MP for York …”It is no petty danger that threatens us…we are at war with France…I remind you of Cressy and Agincourt”. Such tracts were cheaply produced and intended for wide circulation but few survive. Hard to find.
