A detailed examination of the assassination and death of  Rafael Trujillo, the dictator of the Dominican Republic from the 1930s until his death in 1961 His  brutal, 31 year rule was one of the longest for a non-royal leader in the world and centred around a personality cult.  His security force, including the infamous SIM, are held responsible for more than 50,000 murders, including the Parsley Massacre in 1937 which continues to affect Dominican-Haitian relations.  The author, Bernard Diederich, was the first journalist to file a story on the assassination.
