First edition. xii, 13-324pp, illustrated with figures, charts, engravings and line drawings, engraved frontispiece. In original decorated cloth boards with gilt motif on front panel, gilt lettering spine. 12mo. Cloth is heavily worn, rubbed and rounded on corners and spine ends, marked and faded. Hinges cracked. First and last few leaves tanned and spotted, with some faint and occasional spotting throughout. Presentation inscription on front paste down, previous owners name flambouyantly inked on front free endpaper, lengthy but neat inscription on bastard title page, first page of preface a little chipped on fore edge.
