First edition, first impression.  172pp, with monochrome plate illustrations interleafed  and further drawings in text.  Black cloth-covered boards, gilt titles to spine.  8vo.  Volume is neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  Glossy, illustrated dust jacket, not price clipped, a little shelf worn, gently bumped at extreme edges, slightly rubbed at spines and slightly toned on interior.

This book was the first published to deal with the origins, history, and developments of long-case clocks with painted or brass dials (more commonly called grandfather clocks), with sufficient detail to enable the reader to calculate the age of particular clocks.
