340pp. Not dated but inscription on half title page is dated 1939. 48 full-page colour plates by Harry G Theaker (including endpapers and frontispiece). Green cloth-covered boards with embossed decorations and rules, colour illustration pasted on (boards a little rounded at corners and spine ends but still bright, strong and square). Beautifully illustrated endpapers. Internally neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket (chapped all round edges, cracks along spine, creating flap and small loss at spine ends, small scuff on verso). Issued as part of Ward, Lock’s outstanding Prince Charming Colour Books for Children series. Only this edition of has the full 48 full page colour illustrations, with later editions having 16, 20 or 24 colour plates only. Jacket fitted with archival-quality mylar wrapper to protect & prolong its life. It is not adhered to the book or to the jacket. Hard to find in dust jacket. A truly lovely vintage volume.
