The Cavell Van – a prototype parcels van built by the South Eastern and Chatham Railway in 1919 – is so called because it was the vehicle used to repatriate the body of Edith Cavell following the end of the first world war. Cavell, a pioneering nurse active in the behind the lines resistance in Belgium in the early days of the war, was executed under German military law in 1915.
