The London Stock Exchange’s new home, The Stock Exchange Tower, was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1972. The landmark 26 floor building has a sprawling 23,000 sq ft face to face trading floor. The opening of the new premises marked a significant period of modernisation for the London financial markets and the construction of the Tower on Threadneedle Street and Old Broad Street as completed by Trollope & Colls in a project costing an estimated £13 million. This commemorative booklet contains a brief history of the London Stock Exchange and of the rebuilding, a forward look towards an international exchange and details of the opening ceremony and the Queen’s role. Now known as 125 Broad Street, the Stock Exchange Tower has been transformed into a commercial office building, following the relocation of the London Stock Exchange to Paternoster Square in 2004.
