First edition, first impression.  192pp, profusely illustrated in colour.  Laminated, illustrated stiff card covers with deep, illustrated French flaps.  Black free endpapers.  4to.  Covers are slightly rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends else volume is neat, clean, bright and tight.  A newspaper clipping with an appreciation of Norman Cornish on the occasion of the centenary of his birth loosely laid in.  

Norman Cornish (1919-2014) started wok as as a miner at the age of 14, becoming a full time artist in 1966. Popularly known as a ‘pit painter’, many of his works depict mining and industrial scenes and miners’ community life.  A major retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Bowes Museum on the 100th anniversary of his birth; and the Norman Cornish Trail was created in Spennymoor, co. Durham, in 2019, to allow tourists to follow a 1.5 mile walking route to view many of the scenes he painted.
