A facsimile reproduction of the third volume of the second edition of Edward Hasted’s magnus opus, The History and Topographical Survey of the Country of Kent.  xxviii, 560pp, with three folding illustrations and black and white illustrations in text.  Red cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little pushed at spine base, top text block edge a little dust darkened, else neat, clean, bright and tight.  Dust wrapper a little bumped at edges and slightly sunned over spine, price clipped.

Edward Hasted – a curious man who later in life abandoned his wife and fled to France with another women and who spent some of his later life in a debtors’ prison – was an antiquarian and pioneering historian of his home county of Kent.  His History and Topographical Survey of the County of Kent was first published in four volumes between 1778 and 1799.  The extensively revised and enlarged second edition was published in 12 volumes between 1797 and 1801.

We have several volumes of Hasted’s works in stock (as well as many other books of Kentish interest) and offer generous discounts to those ordering more than one at a time. Please inquire!
