First thus.  316pp.  Green cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  8vo.  Cloth a little worn and tired, slightly faded around edges and a little bruised at spine tips.  Text block edges a little toned.  Hint of toning to endpapers else internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original worn dust wrapper, a little rubbed, chipped and faded around edges, generally shelf worn.

Neville Cardus was the Manchester Guardian’s cricket correspondent from 1919 and its chef music critic from 1927, holding both posts until 1940.  In these twin roles and fields, he became one of the foremost and most influential critics in the years up to the Second World War.
