First published in Germany in German in 1991 under the title Drum, this is the first English language edition. 160pp, numerous black and white photographs, on almost every page. In laminated illustrated card coves (a little rubbed at edges and on corners, minor delamination around base of spine). Internally clean and bright, with occasional indentation on page edges. A very good copy. Large format 4to. An evocative collection of photographs, quotes and extracts conjuring the spirit of Sof’town – Sophiatown – in the 1950s, one of South Africa’s Golden Ages. Hard to find title.
