An exercise book packed full of newspaper and journal cuttings, mostly pasted in but with many loosely inserted cutting too. Most relate to events and distinguished persons from Harrogate and its environs, and a few relate to Royal Events, all dating from between 1909 and 1937. Includes a section of cuttings relating to the deaths of local men in the First World War, particularly one W E Ransome, a heroic young Sergeant Major who lost his life after returning to the trenches at Givenchy, and moving letters from mothers with sons at the front. Several of the cuttings relate to the infamous ‘Slingsby’ case, where the parentage of five year old Teddy Slingsby was contested through the courts, determining whether or not he was entitled to inherit the extensive Slingsby estates around Harrogate. Many of the cutting are browned, the pages of the album rough at edges, and a couple of loose leaves.
