A paper on the then current organisation and management of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra – including discussion of its instrumental composition and the balance between voice, chamber and full orchestral concerts – deliverd by Henry E Rensburg to the Liverpool Art Club in December 1876.

Henry Rensburg (1841-1927) was a banker and stock broker who migrated from this native town of the The Hague to Liverpool in the 1860s.  He established the firm Henry E Rensburg & Co which eventually became Rensburg Sheppards.  He was honorary secretary of the Arts Club and hosted muscial concerts in his own home, including performances by Max Bunch and Joseph Joachim.  Rensburg had litte contact with his family but he was the brother of Dutch violinist and cellist Jacques Rensburg.
