Orde Wingate

First edition, first impression.  574pp, with maps in text and some black and white plate illustrations.  Pink cloth-covered boards with gilt lettering on the spine.  8vo.  Cloth is a little faded, dulling titles on spine, very slight rounded at corners and spine ends.  A little shadowing on text block edges and light toning on text block edges else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.  In its original matte dust wrapper, shelf worn, rubbed and chipped at edges with short crack on front spine fold and visible shelf wear on rear panel, not price clipped.  

Biography of Orde Charles Wingate, the senior British Army Officer whom Winston Churchill described as “a man of genius who might well have become a man of destiny” – had his life not been cut short by in an aviation accident.  Wingate was an exponent of unconventional military thinking, a dedicated Christian Zionist and founder of the British-Jewish counter-insurgency unit called the Special Night Squads in Mandatory Palestine in 1938, during the Arab Revolt.
