1st edition, 1st printing. 276pp. In green cloth-covered boards with gilt titles front and spine. 8vo. Severe mottling and staining around spine, suggestive of old water damage, but no warping, lightly rounded at spine tips and corners. Faint and occasional spotting on text block edges. Internally, there’s a small stain on the front hinge, else neat, clean, bright and tight. In its original dust jacket, a little worn, lightly rubbed on edges and chipped around spine ends. A detailed history of Egypt through the 19th and 20th centuries, which traces its emergence into the modern world and its prolonged relationship with Great Britain, eventuating in independence; and argues that the Muslim Brotherhood experience of the mid-20th century was an almost inevitable result of earlier periods.
