Mother Goose Pictured by Monro S Orr

Undated but circa 1920 (inscription dated 1922).  256pp, with colour plate frontispiece, 14 further full page colour illustrations and many further illustrations, all by Monro S Orr.  Title page decorated and printed in red and black. Green cloth boards with colour pictorial onlay on front panel, red lettering front and spine. 8vo.  Covers are heavily worn, rubbed and rounded at corners and one spine joints and tips, marked, pictorial onlay chipped with some loose.  Text block edges toned and soft along fore edge. Front hinge cracked; previous owner’s name, dated 1922) on the front free endpaper; some ticks alongside titles on contents pages; general signs of handling and reading throughout.

A collection of traditional nursery rhymes and fairy tales, starting with Mother Goose, gloriously illustrated by the Scottish artist Monro S Orr (1874-1955).  We think, but cannot state with certainty, that this is a first thus edition – later editions of Mother Goose with Monro Orr’s illustration appear not to have the complete set of full colour illustrations.
