First published in 1937, this is the third impression of the 1972 edition. [6] 190pp, with numerous black and white illustrations, charts in text etc. In cloth-covered boards with gilt titles on spine. Small 4to. A little spotting and dust marking on upper text block edge, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. In its original dust jacket, very lightly bumped at edges and now protected in a Mylar-style protective wrapper. A very nice copy indeed. Griffiths bought his first boat, an ancient cutter, in 1921 and learnt to sail the hard way on the River Orwell; after that he owned some 20 more boats and constantly wrote about his experiences, becoming editor of Yachting Monthly, a post he held until he retired in 1967, barring a break during the second world war when he served as a Lt Commander in the RNVR. This volume encapsulates his accumulated knowledge of naval architecture and yacht design.
