First edition, first impression.  72pp, with colour plate illustrations and line drawings in text.  Glossy , illustrated stiff card covers.  A little gentle edge wear to slightly faded card covers.  Previous owner’s blind embossed stamp on the title page else volume is neat, clean, bright and tight throughout.

Justinian the Great (d 565AD) was arguably the greatest Roman Emperor after Augustus. Scraping armies together from the remnants of the Imperial garrisons and from the bodyguards of his generals, by the end of his reign he succeeded in his military objectives and had made the Mediterranean sea once more a ‘Roman Lake’.  This work details the military history of the western campaigns and features sections on the Roman world in the firth and sixth centuries, the Roman army, the campaigns of Belisarius in Vandal Africa, Italy and Ostogothic army, Narses’ victories and the wars in Spain, with details battle plans and army compositions.
